Welcome to The Descent Project

The Descent Project is a new guide site for families who ride lift-served mountains — skiing in the winter, bike parks in the summer, with a focus on the Western US.
We're the Mayeux family, based in Park City, Utah. The mountain calendar runs our year: junior ski racing through the winter, bike-park laps through the summer, and a lot of trip planning in between. This site is where we're putting what we've learned — and what we keep researching — into guides other families can actually use.
What's coming
Three kinds of posts, starting this August:
Resort and bike-park deep dives. Terrain, logistics, and what actually matters when you bring kids — researched carefully, with every stat attributed to a season.
Trip logistics. Planning guides for ski and bike trips with a family: where to stay, when to go, how to keep the costs sane.
Racing culture. The junior ski-racing world from the parent side — training blocks, race weekends, what the season really looks like.
A note on how we write
When a post is first-person, we were actually there. When it isn't, it's written as researched guide material and says so. No invented trip reports, no stats without a season attached, no pretending a lift is open when we don't know.
More soon. If there's a resort or bike park you want covered, tell us: doug@wayfindadventures.com.
More resort guides, trip logistics, and racing-season notes on the blog.
